Improving Informational Text Skills with Relevant Content


Middle school teachers at Carl H Kumpf noticed that their students were consistently struggling with informational text standards on state assessments. They also found that students were not as engaged with informational and nonfiction texts, which may have impacted their results. 


Suzanne Hamilton, 7th and 8th Grade Language Arts Teacher, and her colleagues decided to implement The Juice in their language arts classes. After using The Juice, they noticed: 

  • Improved Reading Comprehension: Students increased their informational text skills using the standards-aligned assessment questions on The Juice. 
  • Increased Engagement: Students showed more engagement with the relevant content in The Juice.
