INTRODUCTION TO THE JUICE
The Juice provides engaging, differentiated content for ELA, social studies, science, quantitative reasoning, and social-emotional learning for elementary school high, middle school low, middle school high, high school low, and high school high. The Juice is best suited for kids who are reading to learn rather than learning to read. All of our content is aligned to state standards and topics are carefully chosen to grasp your children’s attention and spark family discussion.
The Juice’s team of educators and journalists meet every night, so you can have fresh content in the morning. Monday-Friday by 6:00 am you will have fresh content in your account.

STUDENT DAILY JUICE
You have two ways to access The Juice each day. You can access via email sent each morning to your inbox, or you can log in at secure.thejuice.news/sign-in.
If you used an email to set up your student account, you can reset your password at secure.thejuice.news/forgot-password.
If you did not use an email to set up your student account, you can ask your parent to reset your password in the parent portal.
To change a student password in the parent portal, click the Class icon at the top of the page. Next check the box next to the student’s name and click on their name. The student view panel for that student will open. Click on account information and the password reset will be at the bottom of the page. Follow the screen prompts from there.
You can change your student password in the account settings panel.
Start by clicking on your name avatar in the upper right corner of the screen. This will bring up the account settings dialogue box. In your account settings, click on Change password and then type your new password in the text fields provided. Finally, click Update to ensure that the change takes effect.
Your child’s most recent teacher, school or testing results will be able to provide you with this information.
Some of the news and current events topics covered in The Juice may not be appropriate for children below 5th grade. The lowest level of content available to students is at a 5th grade reading level.

To change your parent portal password, start by clicking on your name avatar in the upper right corner of the screen. This will bring up the account settings dialogue box. In your account settings, click on Change password and then type your new password in the text fields provided. Finally, click Update to ensure that the change takes effect.
CLASS AND STUDENT MANAGEMENT
Students are added to classes via the Class Page. At the top of the teacher portal, click on the Class icon. Next, click the blue Add Students button that appears in the upper right corner of the screen. This will open the Add Student dialogue box. From the class page, click the “+” icon in the upper right corner or click the blue “add students” button in the center of the screen. These buttons will open the Add Student dialogue box.
The Add Student dialogue box provides three different options for adding students: (1) Add manually, (2) Share Class Code, and (3) Import Data.
Passwords can be changes in the Account Information tab in the Student View panel.
You can reset your child’s password in the account information tab found in the Student View panel. To open the Student View panel, click the Class icon at the top of the teacher portal page, check the box next to the student’s name and then click on their name. The panel for that student will open. Click on account information and the password reset will be at the bottom of the page.
Reading levels are changed in the Student Overview tab.
From the parent portal top menu, click on Class icon. On the next screen, click on the name of the student you would like to change the reading level for. The Student View will open. The Student Overview tab will be at the top. . Click on the pencil on the reading level row, pick the new reading level and click save.
With The Juice, you have a robust library at your fingertips. In the parent portal, click on the search icon at the top of the page. In the search box, type in your term and click the search icon. You can search by relevance, content type such as articles, infographics, Extra Juices, or videos. You can also search by article category.
FAMILY COMMUNICATION TOOLS
In the parent portal, click on the dashboard icon at the top of the page—next, click announcements. On the next screen, you will see a family message panel; in this panel, click on the orange pencil in the upper right corner of the panel.
Clicking on the orange pencil will cause the family message dialogue box to appear. The dialogue box contains a simple text editor. Type the message text into the text editor and click the blue “save” button. Family messages post the next business day to (1) the Daily Juice and (2) the parent portal.
ACTIVITIES, PERFORMANCE AND REPORTS
There are two paths to view activity data.
Click on the dashboard icon at the top of the page to quickly see performance information. You can see the completion rate for activities and quiz scores by average and range on the class performance screen for a specific date, range of dates, and article category and reading level.
To see details at the student level from the class performance screen, click the view details button. Clicking this button will pull up a list of your children in the class. Click on the date to see performance information for each student in the class.
You can also see performance via the Student Activity panel. At the top of the screen, click the Class icon. Next, click on any individual student’s name. This will open the Student View dialogue box, which contains detailed reports of Daily Juice activity and quiz performance. To view one or the other, click on the Daily Juice or Quiz Performance tabs located on the left side of the screen.
Daily Juice reports show whether a student has read an issue of The Daily Juice, whether the quiz is in-progress or completed, and, if applicable, the student’s quiz score and whether the student read any extra juices or watched videos.
You can access quiz performance data via the Student Activity panel. At the top of the parent portal screen, click the Class icon. Next, click on any individual student’s name. This will open the Student View dialogue box. Click on the quiz performance tab.
By default, the “Quiz Performance” tab will display the current day’s quiz results. However, you can change the date by selecting a different date chip.
From the Student View panel, click on any individual student’s name. This will open the Student View dialogue box, which contains detailed reports of Daily Juice activity and quiz performance available for download. You can download a quiz performance report by quiz question or standard for a specific date or range of dates.
You can also download a Daily Juice report. This report shows whether a student has read an issue of The Daily Juice, whether the quiz is in-progress or completed, and, if applicable, the student’s quiz score and whether the student read any extra juices or watched videos.
From the Daily Juice, click on the learning standard code that appears next to a quiz question. Clicking on the code will reveal a dialogue box containing a summary of the relevant learning standard.
To view a different type of learning standard in this context, simply click on the standard type you want to view. For example, if you are viewing the Juice Standard and you want to view the Common Core standard, then click on the Common Core tab to bring up the code, and summary, of the relevant Common Core standard.
There are many fun ways you can enjoy The Juice with the entire family. Here are a few examples:
- Listen to articles out loud together
- Replicate STEM experiments at home
- Test one another on new vocabulary words
- Create your own infographic
- Use the discussion questions to guide conversation
- Challenge other families and see who can score higher on the comprehension checks
- Have a family debate
- Submit video ideas for the chance to have your idea featured in a future issue of The Juice

ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT INFORMATION
An annual family subscription to The Juice costs $99.50 per year. The annual subscription includes one parent teacher and up to 3 students per family subscription.
You can also purchase a monthly subscription to The Juice. Month-to-Month is $9.95 per family and the subscription includes one parent teacher and up to 3 students per family subscription.
SYSTEM AND DEVICE INFORMATION
Once you are a registered user (Teacher or Student), you can switch devices. Just log in with your username and password
You do not need to access The Juice through a browser. You can install The Juice just as you would any other app on your phone, tablet, or laptop.
Android Devices
If you are using an Android smartphone or tablet, first launch the Chrome app. Then go to secure.thejuice.news. Next, tap the menu icon (3 dots in the upper right corner of the screen) and tap Add to Homescreen. Close Chrome, and locate The Juice app on your home screen.
Tap the app icon to launch the app. If you are not already logged in, then you may be asked to sign in. Otherwise, start using The Juice app.
iOS Devices
If you are using an iOS device, first launch the Safari app. Then go to https://secure.thejuice.news. Next, tap the Share icon (the small rectangle with an upward-pointing arrow at the bottom of the screen). You may have to scroll down to click Add to Home Screen and then Add. Close Safari, and locate The Juice app on your home screen.
Tap the app icon to launch the app. If you are not already logged in, then you may be asked to sign in. Otherwise, start using The Juice app.
